Email Marketing

What is Email Marketing?

Email Marketing is a highly effective strategy for sending emails to clients and customers. It uses email service provider(ESP) as a medium to send large amounts of email to their customer list. It is highly effective in transforming one-time buyers to loyal customers to your business.

Emails are the black gold in this digital era. With emails, you can “literally” contact anyone in this world, to get messages across or to increase sales. It’s a false perception that Email is the worse digital marketing method available, it is in actual fact, the highest converting tool around.
Imagine the inbox is like a home. Ads are just floating banners or signboard outside the house, you can ignore them anytime. But emails are sent straight into your house before you know it, your decision could only be “Read or Don’t Read”, rather than “Just Ignore”.

Why should you use Email Marketing?

Did you know that there are 3x more email accounts than Facebook & Twitter accounts combined? There are at least 99 percent of consumers check their email on a daily basis and it is ranked as 1st channel of communication for business.

Imagine the inbox is like a home. Ads are just floating banners or signboard outside the house, you can ignore them anytime. But emails are sent straight into your house before you know it, your decision could only be “Read or Don’t Read”, rather than “Just Ignore”.

That being said, there are some business email etiquette that we should all adhere to when sending or replying emails:

Always reply to previous emails

Don’t create a new email thread when you are discussing something of the past. Reply via the original email (even if you have to search back 3 months of emails) so people have the context and they don’t have to think back to what they have discussed with you again.

Think before BCC

Blind Carbon Copy (BCC) should not be used frequently and should only be in 1 of the 2 contexts.

1: When you introduce me to someone, and I reply to that email, I will add you under BCC so that you will not be bombarded with emails between me and the recipient and

2: Marketing emails with lots of recipients. Anything more would feel like digital cheating, in a way.

A KISS email

Accurate, Keep It Short & Sweet emails. Be concise with what you request for in the email. Don’t use a whole paragraph to request for something that can be explained in 3 words.

The Key ingredients for a Successful Email Marketing Campaign:

The Content!

Yes, why are you sending me this email? Your email subject should be short enough to answer this before people open your email. Reasons could be simple, you want to thank someone for their purchase prior, offering them a discount coupon so they can get a discount on the next purchase. Or it’s a festive season, and you want to send a greeting, plus a coupon to encourage spending.
You could also be sending a weekly or monthly newsletter that gives an update on your products or services. Regardless of what’s the reason, make sure you have a solid content

The Layout

Images evoke emotions. Make sure you are using the layout to your advantage. Don’t cramp all the words inside the email, get an image that can speak for you. Give some room for space as well, a widely spread email doesn’t look as threatening as an essay email, people are more likely to read them.

Use Colours to your advantage.

If you are promoting a brand, make sure to use your brand colour so people can instantly associate it with what you are offering. A consistent branding across all marketing channel is important.

Personalization and Imagery

Marketing emails need to be personalized to the reader and loaded with fascinating graphics. Few people want to read emails addressed to “Dear Sir / Madam” and even fewer people want to read emails that simply give them a wall of text. Visuals help your recipients quickly understand what the point of your email is.

Email Optimization

There are always better ways to do things, email marketing included. For example, the right time and day to send an email, the length or the words used in the subject title that increases email open rate. Use data from previous email campaign sent to formulate and strategize for the next upcoming email blast. With data, there is always room for improvement and optimization.

An Appropriate Call-to-Action

Exceptional marketing emails must, above all, provide a clear call-to-action (CTA). After all, if the brands take up the time of the subscribers— and the inbox space— with another email, every message must have a point to it.
