Services

Shared Hosting

It is where a single physical server is utilized to host multiple sites. All the sites in the server will share a limited portion of the server’s resources. All the users will be sharing the server’s traffic, databases, disk space and add-ons offered by the server’s host.

If you are starting out with a new website, you will need 3 items: Domain Name, Hosting and CMS. Under hosting, there are so many different types of hosting plans to choose from different companies. It is important that you choose one that fits your budget, as well as providing a level of service that you can trust. Most often than not, shared hosting is the cheapest version of hosting, but it comes with a good set of limitations too.

Advantages of Shared Hosting

Flexibility.
Shared Web Hosting has plans that can be upgraded over time which save the hassle of buying new plans for your website.
Cheap and affordable
It is the most affordable hosting solution that can be owned by most business owners. It varies between prices as low as 10myr to 400myr per month.
Easy to manage
Setting a shared hosting website has been made simple over the years. Now even managing your website are also simplified for users to manage the tasks and duties associated with the server.

Disadvantages of Shared Hosting

Speed performance
Sharing a server with tons of different websites may increase the load time. Why? Loading a website will require memory, bandwidth, and energy of the server. Large amount of traffic will slow down your website.
Traffic
As more and more users are accessing your neighbor’s website, your website will be getting slower or even congested because of the traffic flowing rate is high.
Control Panel
Lacking control of your own server will demote the level of performance of your website. The website may not function at its peak due to a lack of resources and customization of the server host.

Managed VPS Hosting

Fully Managed VPS is a virtual private server that lets you take a hands-off approach. Your hosting company will handle the technical side to ensure the VPS provides the functionality and virus and spam protection you need without any work on your part. They’ll also handle maintenance, troubleshooting, and software installs, saving you time and making sure the job is done with expertise.

PROS

  • Saves you time
  • Requires no IT expertise on your part
  • Ensures OS updates are completed, keeping you secure and current
  • Ensures changes are made correctly

CONS

  • Costs more than unmanaged
  • Gives more control to an outside party (it’s important to use a reputable hosting provider)

Unmanaged VPS Hosting

Unmanaged VPS or self-managed VPS is a virtual private server that a company manages for itself. The hosting company is responsible for providing the VPS, maintaining the hardware, and performing system-level health checks, but the VPS customer performs the rest of the maintenance, monitoring, and changes.

PROS

  • Cost savings over managed VPS
  • More control, less trust required

CONS

  • Takes time away from core business functions
  • Requires 24/7 IT expert on the clock
  • Difficult to keep up with OS updates and patches
  • Potentially reduces overall security and reliability if in-house team is slow to perform updates

Benefits of Shared Hosting

Managed or Unmanaged

Depending on the Hosting Company, they can provide managed or unmanaged packages as well. Managed Hosting means that there will be an employee from the company that you can speak to when you have service-related issues, or for the business owner who does not want to bother themselves to learn about hosting and server. Whereas Unmanaged Hosting is basically self-managed, the hosting company will sell you data space, and you have to do the server configuration yourself. In terms of pricing, a Managed server will be much more expensive than an unmanaged server.

Control Panel

Control Panel is the management or the JMB of the apartment, it controls the server settings, as well as the website settings in the hosting server. Using a Control Panel, you can easily install WordPress without using a line of code. The most common Control panels are cPanel and Plesk.

Bandwidth

Bandwidth is the control of data flow in and out of the data center. On some Hosting plans, they will use bandwidth to control the data so it doesn’t crash the server, and also using it as a means to control what sort of hosting plan you are on. Essentially, high traffic = high bandwidth = more expensive package.

Number of Domains

Using the Apartment analogy, Domains is the number of houses staying on a floor. On shared hosting, the hosting provider has dedicated that this floor can only stay (say 20 houses), so when you buy the hosting package they already know what is the maximum domain you are allowed and slot you into the right floor. Whereas for VPS and Dedicated Hosting, there’s typically no such limitation placed.

Number of Emails

Since Emails uses space too, most of the Hosting Providers will include email accounts as well. On some packages, it only allows 2 or 5 users, while some packages can go unlimited users. Though this is not a very important factor, it is good to have in mind when your business is expanding, do you need extra resources to get more email account for your employees.
