Shopify POS Receipt Printer

When you are using Shopify POS, no doubt one of the most important hardware to have is the Thermal Receipt Printer. It allows you to quickly print out the customer’s receipt, if they chose not to have it emailed to them (Save paper!).

Nonetheless, Shopify is only officially supporting a few models of the thermal printer that is listed on its supported hardware and is available in Malaysia:

Difference between a Bluetooth printer and Ethernet Printer

Bluetooth printers are relatively portable as they can be placed anywhere in the store as long as it is near the power plug, and within range of the bluetooth device.

The ethernet printer however needs to be connected to the router in order to access the LAN ports. This sort of limits the place that the printer can be placed.

A way to overcome this is to use a WiFi extender that comes with an ethernet port.

1. What receipt printers are compatible with Shopify POS

Please refer to the full list of Shopify supported printers. Of those on the list, we have identified that the Star Micronics tsp100iii and Star Micronics tsp143iiibi can be found in Malaysia.


 2. How do I add a receipt printer to Shopify POS

  1. For the bluetooth printer, make sure your compatible device’s bluetooth is on. For the LAN printer, connect the LAN cable to the modem.
  2. At the bottom left corner Home -> Settings -> Set up hardware -> Receipt Printer -> Bluetooth / Wi-Fi / LAN (Ethernet)
  3. Follow the on screen instructions. Turn the power on. Load up on the receipt paper. For Bluetooth Printers, search for it in the list of available device. Wi-Fi and LAN Printers should show up if they are connected properly.
  4. As long as the pairing is successful, the bluetooth printer will automatically connect to your device whenever it is in range.

3. Why is my Shopify receipt printer not working?

  1. Check if your device is turned on
  2. Check if you have the receipt paper loaded, and the printer is closed properly
  3. Check if the printer is still connected your mobile device. You can view all connected devices under “Manage connected hardware” in the settings.

4. What is the size of the printer receipt that is used

5. How do I print a receipt from Shopify POS

Once you have completed the transaction, there will be options to either Print Receipt, Email Receipt or Text Receipt to your customer.
